Lava tubing
We arrived at the meeting for the lava tubing in the late morning we and were given a set of overalls and a helmet with a light mounted on top. We then boarded the bus again for a short journey to the entrance to the cave and while on board we layered up in preparation for the low temperatures in the cave. When we arrived at the mouth of the cave and our group was given a brief explanation about how the cave was formed and then we advanced in to the cave with just a head torch to see where we going and find our footing on the rugged terrain. We walked and scrambled through until we reached approximately half way where our Icelandic guide asked us to turn off our light and to listen, All we could hear was the water dripping from the roof of the cavern and you could see nothing as for once the was no traceable light source and if you held your hand in front of your face then you could not actually see this after this we turned our head lamps back on and progressed further into the cave until we made it to the small hole that was the exit. The caving was enjoyed by everyone and a thoroughly memorable experience.
