Day 2- Jamie Stevens

We woke up at 6:30 in order to get ready and went downstairs at 7:30 to have breakfast. Unfortunately the teachers (Mr Dalton) were very indecisive and they/he told some of us to make our pack lunch out of the food from breakfast. Later when I went downstairs to get on the bus with my suitcase I was greeted with the sight of Mr Dalton carrying a big box of sandwiches however, this did mean we got extra sandwiches.

First off we went to Pingvellir (pronounced Thingvellir) National Park which is one if the best places to see the rifting between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates. In basic terms it is two big cliffs with a path down the middle which is nice to belief is the two plates but really the plates are much further apart.

Next we went caving in a lava tube which was really fun but could sometimes be terrifying as we hopped from rock to rock trying not fall or trip! What made it worse was sometimes there would be a hill and the ceiling would get lower so we were forced to crawl or roll. When we got just over half way, the guide stopped us and we waited for any stragglers to catch up and we all turned off our head torches and stayed silent so all we could hear was the water dripping from the stalactites and we couldn't see our hands in front of us.

After this we got in the bus and set off for Geysir. Geysir is not just one geyser it is actually a collection of geysers. Geysers are when hot water/steam flys into the air because of pressure building up underground.

Next was Gullfoss the fault-guided waterfall which is really lots of little waterfalls. We got out of the bus and walked along a cliff edge looking at a river in the valley below. We reached a small peak and finally saw Gullfoss. It was brilliant (for a waterfall).
